Tenor, William Mayo, has been a member of the voice faculty at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music for the past 24 years.
Mr. Mayo has sung throughout Canada and the United States with Metropolitan Opera Basso, Edmund Karlsrud and his Men of Song. While living in New York City, William was tenor soloist at 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church under the direction of organist, William Whitehead.
Returning to Philadelphia, Mr. Mayo became tenor soloist at Old Historic Christ Church at 2nd above Market Streets under the direction of organist, John Binsfield III. Mr. Mayo remained a featured tenor soloist at Christ Church until June 2009.
In February 2006, Mr. Mayo was selected by Vice President’s Joseph Biden’s family to sing the funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine of Vice President Biden’s father.
Mr. Mayo was one of the featured soloist’s at the 41st Eucharistic Congress held in Philadelphia and this past spring. Mr. Mayo was the guest Cantor at The Philadelphia Convention Center for the National Convention of Liturgical Musicwith Catholic University professor and organist, Elaine Rendler.
Mr. Mayo has produced, performed and hotsted his own Broadway radio show, Standing Room Only for WPEN radio in Philadelphia. He has sung Off-Broadway, has written DETOURS, and original musical for The Philadelphia Fringe Festival and has sung on Radio and Television.
Mr. Mayo has been a lecturer at the International Voice Foundation in Philadelphia giving dissertations on female Broadway voice production and has written courses on Performing Musical Theater for the Boyer College of Music.
Mr. Mayo is currently music director for St. Dorothy’s Catholic School and a member of the Philadelphia Theater Alliance.
